Berlin Occupation Forces
British Military Train

Berlin was an island of Freedom from the end of World War II to the time the Berlin Wall came down. Getting in and out of Berlin meant that the various occupying powers had to pass through East Germany - controlled by the Soviet Army.  The Americans, French, and British Forces each had a train to ferry troops back and forth from Berlin to points west.

Here's a group of photos of what's left of the Britich Military Train.

The "Berliner"

This railway carraige was used between 1946 and 1991 to transport troops and civilians from West Germany to West Berlin across the Russian controlled East Germany during the period of the cold war.

The carriage is the only remaining section of the British Military Train and was the main restaurant car for the train, providing 5* meals for all.

Probably it's most famous passenger was a young American GI named Elvis Presley
